  8. FAQ

An Insta360 dive case is bought for one camera, and the depth it buys depends on the camera inside it. The Insta360 X6 goes from 20 m bare to 60 m in the Insta360 Invisible Dive Case Pro. The Insta360 X5 goes from 15 m to 60 m in the Invisible Dive Case. The Insta360 X4 Air reaches 60 m cased from 15 m bare; the Insta360 X4 and Insta360 X3 go from 10 m to 50 m; the Insta360 GO Ultra and Insta360 GO 3S from 10 m to 60 m. Two Insta360 cameras break the pattern: the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 is rated to 12 m bare and has no published housed rating, and the Insta360 Luna Ultra has no waterproofing at all.

The larger question behind a dive-case search is which manufacturers publish a housed depth figure at all. GoPro and DJI are in the tables below on their own published numbers, and for GoPro's 360 camera the answer is not the one most people expect.

This page does not quote a price for any Insta360 dive case, because we could not verify one; does not say one model's case fits another, because no source we hold records that; and does not give a dive-planning depth, because a depth rating is a hardware specification, not a dive plan.

Fig.01 — Two cameras, two different cases. The X6 takes the Invisible Dive Case Pro; the X5 takes the Invisible Dive Case. Both are rated to 60 m.

The Short Answer: Which Case, Which Camera, How Deep

Find your camera. The first figure is its rating with no case; the second is its rating in Insta360's own dive case.

  • Insta360 X6 → Invisible Dive Case Pro: 20 m bare, 60 m cased
  • Insta360 X5 → Invisible Dive Case: 15 m bare, 60 m cased
  • Insta360 X4 Air → Insta360 dive case: 15 m bare, 60 m cased
  • Insta360 X4 → Insta360 dive case: 10 m bare, 50 m cased
  • Insta360 X3 → Insta360 dive case: 10 m bare, 50 m cased
  • Insta360 GO Ultra and GO 3S → Insta360 dive case: 10 m rated, 60 m cased

Get the X6's case name right: it is the Invisible Dive Case Pro, and the Pro name belongs to the X6 alone in every source we hold. The X5's case is the Invisible Dive Case, no suffix. For the X4 Air, X4, X3 and the GO cameras Insta360 publishes the cased depth, but no case name appears in our sources, so we do not invent one.

Now the two answers most readers do not expect.

The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 is rated to 12 m bare, and we hold no published housed depth rating for it. The honest answer is the bare rating and the absence.

The Insta360 Luna Ultra has no waterproofing at all. No bare rating, no case, no water. It is a gimbal camera for dry land.

What a Rated Depth Is, and What It Is Not

Bare against housed

The bare rating is what the camera is rated to on its own; the housed rating is what it is rated to inside the manufacturer's case. The case is what moves an Insta360 X5 from 15 m to 60 m and an Insta360 X4 from 10 m to 50 m — 45 m of rated depth on the X5 and 40 m on the X4, simple subtraction between two published figures.

In-section slot · 16:9
Fig.02 — The same camera. 15 m on the left, 60 m on the right. The case is the difference.

What the figure means

A rated depth is a manufacturer's specification for the camera, or for the camera in its case. That is all it is. It does not tell you how deep you should dive or are trained to dive, and none of our sources carry a figure for that, so this page publishes none. Dive planning is not a camera decision.

Where the published figures stop

Insta360 publishes bare and housed depths across the current X-series and the GO line. It publishes no housed figure for the Ace Pro 2 in any source we hold, and no water rating of any kind for the Luna Ultra. Those gaps go in the same tables, in the same tone, as GoPro's and DJI's.

Two labels, used consistently from here on. Not published means the housed figure is absent from what the manufacturer publishes. Not recorded means our reference holds no housed figure and we could not confirm either way. Neither means a case does not exist — only that there is no rated figure to quote.

The Insta360 Cases, Model by Model — and the Compatibility Trap

The trap: two flagships, two different cases

The X6 uses the Invisible Dive Case Pro; the X5 uses the Invisible Dive Case. They are two different cases, and nothing we hold says either fits the other camera. No source we hold records any Insta360 dive case fitting more than one model — including the X4 and X4 Air, which share a name and not much else. Buy the case listed for your exact camera, and if a listing does not name your model, do not assume.

In-section slot · 16:9
Fig.03 — Fit is per model. The seal only works on the camera it was made for.

The $150 finding

The X6 costs $699.99 (checked 28 September 2026, no promotion). The X5 costs $549.99 (checked 28 September 2026; its Labor Day promotion has ended). Once cased, both reach exactly 60 m. For a diver who uses the case every time, the X6's bare rating buys nothing at depth, and the X5 reaches the same rated depth for $150 less. The X6's bare rating matters if you want to swim without a case at all — the Insta360 X6 review covers that, and it is a different decision.

50 m against 60 m

The X4 and X3 are both rated to 50 m cased, against 60 m for the X5 and X4 Air — a 10 m difference in the published rating. Our sources rate the camera-and-case combination, not which part sets the limit, so the practical reading is simple: with an X4 or X3, 50 m is your number.

The cheapest routes to 60 m in the Insta360 range

For 360 capture, the Insta360 X4 Air at $399.99 (checked 28 September 2026; $399.00 at B&H): 15 m bare, 60 m cased, 165 g, user-replaceable lenses. Launched 28 October 2025, it is not a renamed X4, which stops at 10 m bare and 50 m cased. The cheapest Insta360 camera of any kind with a 60 m cased rating is the Insta360 GO 3S at $349.99 (64GB; $379.99 for 128GB, checked 28 September 2026), rated to 10 m bare. No figure on this page includes a case price, because we could not verify one.

If you searched for "Insta360 Dive Buddy"

No Insta360 product by that name appears in any specification source we hold, so we will not describe one. The cases we can document are the Invisible Dive Case and the Invisible Dive Case Pro. We will update this page if the name is confirmed against an Insta360 source.

GoPro Waterproof Cases: What GoPro Publishes

More people search for a GoPro waterproof case than for any Insta360 case. Here is the straight answer, on GoPro's published figures.

GoPro MISSION 1 line: 20 m bare, and 60 m housed for the PRO only

The MISSION 1 line is rated to 20 m bare — the highest bare rating of any GoPro in our reference — and the MISSION 1 PRO to 60 m housed. GoPro publishes no housed rating for the standard MISSION 1: the 20 m bare figure covers both models, the 60 m housed figure the MISSION 1 PRO only. If you own the standard MISSION 1, there is no rated housed number to work to.

The MISSION 1 PRO costs $699.99 (checked 28 September 2026) — the same money as the Insta360 X6 — and matches the X6 on both depth figures. On depth and price those two are level, and we will not pretend otherwise. The standard MISSION 1 costs $599.99 (checked 28 September 2026).

GoPro HERO13 Black: 10 m bare

Rated to 10 m bare; our reference records no housed depth rating. $429.99 at GoPro, $429.00 at B&H (both checked 28 September 2026).

GoPro MAX2: 5 m bare, housed rating not published

This is the answer the searcher least expects. GoPro's 360 camera is rated to 5 m bare — the shallowest of any current 360 camera in our reference — and its housed depth rating is not published. That is not a claim that no housing exists; it means a MAX2 owner going below 5 m has no rated number to plan around. It is $299.99 (on promotion, list $499.99, checked 28 September 2026).

The pattern, not a one-off

GoPro publishes no screen-brightness figure for any camera it sells, and no dynamic-range figure outside the MISSION 1 line. For the MAX2 it also does not publish sensor size, aperture, weight, screen size or rated battery runtime — five figures available only from retailers and reviewers. The missing housed rating fits the pattern.

DJI: The Depth Figures, Then the US Problem

The depth figures

  • DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro: 20 m bare, 60 m cased. The only DJI camera in our reference with a published cased rating, matching the X6 and X5 at 60 m. $319.00 at B&H (checked 28 September 2026); DJI's US store lists it at $319 but it is out of stock in every combo.
  • DJI Osmo Action 6: 20 m bare. Housed figure not recorded. $436.00 at B&H (checked 28 September 2026).
  • DJI Osmo 360: 10 m bare. Housed figure not published — the same gap GoPro has on the MAX2, on the X-series' direct rival. $466.99 on promotion at B&H (list $549.99, checked 28 September 2026).
  • DJI Osmo Nano: 10 m, with its Vision Dock rated IPX4 only — DJI's own figure. The module is rated for immersion; the dock, with the screen and second battery, for splashes. $349.00 (64 GB) or $368.00 (128 GB) on promotion at B&H (regular $389 / $409, checked 28 September 2026).
  • DJI Osmo Pocket 3: not rated for water at all. $439.00 at B&H (checked 28 September 2026); DJI's US store lists it at $439 but it is out of stock.

The purchasing constraint for US readers

DJI does not officially sell the Osmo Nano or Osmo Action 6 in the USA and publishes no USD price for either (the Action 6 is 379 EUR). The Osmo 360 is different: DJI's US store lists it at $549.99 but it is out of stock in every combo, as are the Osmo Action 5 Pro and Osmo Pocket 3, listed at $319 and $439 (all checked 28 September 2026). The prices above are B&H's, where all five were in stock.

Where DJI wins this page

The Osmo Action 5 Pro at $319.00 is the cheapest published route to 60 m cased anywhere in our reference, and the availability caveat on it is a small one: DJI's own US store is out of stock, but B&H had it in stock. It undercuts the Insta360 GO 3S's $349.99 by $30.99 with twice the bare rating, 20 m against 10 m; undercuts the X4 Air's $399.99 by $80.99 while beating it on bare depth, 20 m against 15 m; and undercuts the X5 by $230.99 and the X6 by $380.99 for the same 60 m housed rating. Every price here was checked on 28 September 2026, and none of the Insta360 prices was a promotion that day. No case price is included anywhere.

Two of this page's worst rows are Insta360's own: the Ace Pro 2 at 12 m bare with no published housed rating, and the $769.99 Luna Ultra (checked 28 September 2026), the most expensive Insta360 camera in our reference, with no water rating of any kind.

highlight Insta360's advantage on this page is narrow and specific: it publishes bare and housed ratings across two entire product lines, where GoPro publishes a housed figure for its MISSION 1 PRO only and DJI for the Osmo Action 5 Pro only. That is a disclosure advantage, not a waterproofing advantage.

Every Current Camera, Bare and Housed

Sorted by bare depth, then housed depth — not by brand. That puts two GoPro and two DJI cameras above the Insta360 X5, which is where their published figures put them.

"Not published" means absent from the manufacturer's published figures. "Not recorded" means our reference holds no housed figure and we could not confirm either way. Neither means no case exists. GO Ultra and GO 3S are listed as "10 m rated" because Insta360 and B&H print different ingress-protection codes for them; the depth figure is the one the sources agree on.

Seven Insta360 cameras with a published housed figure; one GoPro camera; one DJI camera. That is the axis this page is organised on, and it is the one where Insta360 genuinely leads — on disclosure, not on depth.

Warning: Three Things That Can Cost You a Camera

callout variant: warning

1 · The Insta360 Luna Ultra has no waterproofing at all. Not a shallow rating, not an unpublished one — none, and no case for it appears in any source we hold. At $769.99 (checked 28 September 2026) it is the most expensive Insta360 camera in our reference and the one that must never go near water: not a pool, not a spray-soaked deck, not a snorkel. If you assumed a flagship would have a dive case, this is the sentence you needed.

2 · The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 is rated to 12 m bare and has no published housed depth rating. Plan around 12 m. We will update this page if Insta360 publishes a housed figure.

3 · The Insta360 X6's IP rating conflicts between Insta360's own two sources. The product page says IP68; the manual's spec table says IPX8. Depth is 20 m in both, so only the code is in doubt. We print both and name each source rather than picking one quietly; the Insta360 X6 review sets them side by side.

Source note: Insta360 serves one shared spec table for the whole X-series at the /x5/ path of onlinemanual.insta360.com; per-model manual URLs return errors, so X6 manual figures are cited from that path.

What to Buy, by What You Are Actually Doing

You own an Insta360 X6 or X5. Buy the case for your camera — the Invisible Dive Case Pro for the X6, the Invisible Dive Case for the X5. Both reach 60 m, and if you already own the camera the case is the entire decision. The Insta360 X5 review covers the X5 in water.

You are buying camera and case together. The Insta360 X4 Air at $399.99 (checked 28 September 2026; $399.00 at B&H) is the cheapest Insta360 360 camera to reach 60 m: 15 m bare, 165 g, user-replaceable lenses. The DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro at $319.00 (B&H, checked 28 September 2026; out of stock at DJI's US store) is $80.99 less, 20 m bare, 60 m cased — for a conventional action camera, the better buy. For 360 capture, where you choose the angle after the dive because you cannot pan fast in water, the X4 Air is the cheapest way in at 60 m. Not bought anything yet? Our best camera for scuba diving picks take it from there.

You own an Insta360 X4 or X3. The case takes you to 50 m, not 60 m. That is your published rating; work to it.

You own an Insta360 Ace Pro 2. 12 m bare, no published housed rating. Plan around the bare figure.

You own an Insta360 Luna Ultra. Do not put it in water, in anything, at any depth.

You shoot GoPro. MISSION 1 PRO is 20 m bare and 60 m housed; GoPro publishes no housed rating for the standard MISSION 1, so work to its 20 m bare. We hold no housed rating for the HERO13 Black, and the MAX2's is not published — its bare rating is 5 m.

You shoot a two-piece wearable. The Insta360 GO 3S is rated to 10 m bare and 60 m cased. DJI's Osmo Nano module is rated to 10 m, but its Vision Dock is IPX4 only, so on the Nano the dock must stay dry. The GO camera itself is rated IPX8 to 10 m; its Action Pod, which carries the screen, is IPX4 splashproof only (Insta360, checked 28 September 2026) — so on the GO too, the screen half stays out of the water.

The case is on and you want to shoot well. Our underwater action camera shooting guide covers white balance, filters and light by depth.

The two cases that resolve the question

No case prices are shown because none could be verified on the check date. Buy the case listed for your exact camera model — cross-model fit is not documented.

Frequently asked questions

Which Insta360 dive case do I need?

The one made for your camera — Insta360's cases are per model, and no source we hold records one fitting another. The Insta360 X6 takes the Invisible Dive Case Pro; the Insta360 X5 takes the Invisible Dive Case, no "Pro". Both reach 60 m. The X4 and X3 reach 50 m cased, not 60 m.

How deep can a GoPro go in a waterproof case?

It depends on the model. Both MISSION 1 models are rated to 20 m bare; only the MISSION 1 PRO has a published housed rating, 60 m. The HERO13 Black is rated to 10 m bare, and we hold no housed rating for it. The MAX2, GoPro's 360 camera, is rated to 5 m bare and its housed rating is not published. That does not mean no housing is made; it means there is no rated figure to quote.

How deep can an Insta360 go with and without a waterproof case?

Bare, then cased: X6 20 m to 60 m; X5 15 m to 60 m; X4 Air 15 m to 60 m; X4 and X3 10 m to 50 m; GO Ultra and GO 3S 10 m rated to 60 m. The full table, with prices and dates, is above. Two exceptions matter more: the Ace Pro 2 is 12 m bare with no published housed rating, and the Luna Ultra has no waterproofing at all.

What is the Insta360 Invisible Dive Case, and what is the Pro version?

The two Insta360 dive case names we can document. The Invisible Dive Case is for the Insta360 X5; the Invisible Dive Case Pro is for the Insta360 X6. Both are rated to 60 m — same depth, different cameras, different cases. We could not verify a price for either, so we do not quote one.

Do I need a waterproof case for an action camera?

Only below its bare rating — and first check whether the manufacturer publishes a housed rating at all. Insta360 does for the X-series and GO line, not the Ace Pro 2. GoPro does for the MISSION 1 PRO; we hold none for the standard MISSION 1, the HERO13 Black or the MAX2. DJI does for the Osmo Action 5 Pro only — at 20 m bare and 60 m cased, also the cheapest published route to 60 m we found. The Luna Ultra and Osmo Pocket 3 carry no water rating at all.
